June 2 -- Canyon weenie roast

After a relaxing and acclimating morning, we left that evening for our first adventure. Provo canyon had been threating bad weather all afternoon, but as we were preparing to leave, the weather cleared right over the canyon.Preparing to depart, Smita wanted a photo of Dave and me "in our natural habitat."

Wes and Anna met us up there and we got the coals burning in Nunn's Park. While they got hot, we hiked up to Bridal Veil Falls. It is a nice, short walk up to the base of the falls. The boys darted up the base as far as they could get before I could arrive with Aleah and call them down.

On a park bridge over the Provo River (which was running high and fast).
Aleah blowing a dandilion puff on the trail. This is especially delighting when we're out, because it is strictly prohibited on our property where Dave has to dig the noxious weeds out.
After marveling at the power of the water, we went back to our coals and roasted our hot dogs. I had made a white bean salad and pickled red onions, watermelon, veggies with dip, and brought chips to accompany. For Smita I had purchased veggie dogs.

For dessert we made s'mores, of course. Poor Smita had one thrust upon her (by me) to fully initiate her into American food culture. Mr. Mokashi couldn't tolerate the marshmallows because he is allergic to eggs. Poor fellow. This was a very nice evening.
