From Cambry March 26, 2016 - The Story

It's official! There is a ring on my finger and a story to go with it. I'm engaged!!!!

Cameron proposed to me on March 25, 2016. I knew he was going to propose this last Friday, but he still managed to surprise me.

Cameron drove me to work on Friday and I was expecting him to pick me up at six and that we would go somewhere and he would propose. But then I got a note at 4:30 from C, one of the assistant managers here, telling me to go out the door to look for a car that would have a kind mom and my next clue. C told me not to worry about taking anything with me or clocking out so I grabbed my coat and phone (thank goodness!) and headed outside thinking that maybe it was work-related. So I left my backpack in the car and, because C told me not to, didn't clock out.

The next clue led me to the Provo temple where C was waiting with a picnic. I thought that that was going to be the proposal, but when he reached into his coat pocket he was holding another clue. The picnic was to help me not be starving until we ate dinner.

The next clue led me to his sister's car and the one she had took me (Cameron didn't come with) to a nail salon on University Avenue. Cameron had purchased me a manicure and pedicure.

After that his sister, Ce, drove me to Taste in Provo (where he took me for my birthday for chocolate tasting). The cashier had the next clue for me which told me to go outside and look for a handsome man walking around.

I found Cameron and we walked just down the street to Oregano Italian kitchen for dinner. It was delicious and perfect and I couldn't stop smiling. I felt so pampered and spoiled and loved. It was the most wonderful feeling.

After dinner Cameron and I drove up the canyon to South Fork park. His parents had set up a campfire, flowers and chocolates, his guitar, and apple cider. He had written a song that made me cry because it was so sweet, and then he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I must have said, "Yes!" twenty times before he could actually get the ring on my finger (I was hugging him so my hand was a bit inaccessible).

I can honestly say that I've never been happier. I so look forward to our life together.

I love you!

Love,
Cambry

Since you've been gone... November 29, 2015

...Where's Waldo?

Cambry accepted my request as her choice this week.

Elise, Cambry, Aleah and I made everyone hats. Security came and supervised our shots because we didn't know you have to get permission. Seven people in red and white stripes walking through the mall draws plenty of attention. "I found Waldo!" "Found him!" "He's been located..."

Paper post from Cambry October 7, 2015

Mom decided this week to go back through her journal and look at her and Dad’s story. She was impressed to do so by the Spirit because she feels like it’s important to have their story written down. I came home from school during the week to Mom sitting on the couch with her journal open. She was saying that rereading hers was a little embarrassing, and that made me curious for what my reaction to my past journals would be.

The one I ended up reading was from my freshman year at BYU. I found an entry from January 14, 2013 that I want to remind you of:

“Riley is such an incredible example to me! He goes to the temple every week (at 4:30 in the morning!) without fail. He can be pretty hard to wake up sometimes, but he always wakes up for the temple.

“He told me a story the other day. He was in P.E. and they were bowling. It was their last time they were going to be at the bowling alley, so Riley decided to treat himself to ice cream.

“There was a girl in his class sitting at the counter. She started raving about the apple beer there and how she loved it so much. She’s handicapped and didn’t really have the social grace that told her when to stop something like that. She finally got to the point and asked my brother if he would buy her an apple beer. Slightly irritated, my brother said, ‘No,’ and walked off.

“He was sitting at a table with his friends when he looked back to that counter where the girl was still sitting, hoping someone would love her enough to buy her an apple beer. Riley then decided that—you know what?—he wouldn’t miss the two dollars it would take to make this girl happy.

“He walked back up to the counter and asked the cashier how much the apple beer was. The man responded with the sizes and prices, and Riley asked the girl which size she wanted. She told him she’d been hoping for a medium.

“Riley ordered her a medium apple beer and the girl’s face lit up. When he went to pay the cashier, the man looked at him and said, ‘You know what? Don’t worry about it. I got it.’

“People are so good! I am so proud of my little brother and honestly wonder (and hope) that I would do the same had I been put in his position. I am so grateful that I get to learn from Riley.”

I had forgotten that story, but reading it again made me cry. I hope you remember that story and that you still live your life that way. Throughout my life I’m learning that being generous is always worth it. I’m grateful again that I keep a journal because it means I can find nuggets like this story that bless me and teach me years later. I love you, bud. Thank you for your goodness.

Love,
Cambry
