Pine wood derby

Parker started this pine wood derby with great confidence; after all, his dad is a bit of a derby guroo. Parker and Dave had used the scale at work to get the weight right before glueing the lead hood dome down. So they walked in with a perfectly weighted car and good assembly memories.

As they raced their cars, Parker's confidence waxed stronger. His car raced fast and won all but one of his heats. Plus while the placements were calculated and the boys raced their cars without the computer, Parker's car consistently beat all the cars on the track (except Riley's old derby car). So as the placement awards were handed out and he wasn't called for 5th through 2nd place, Riley started whooping it up, "Parker, you won! Your car won it, Parker!"

Except he didn't. Go figure.

Really, once he recovered from shock for a second, Parker handled it well and was able to take the evening for the fun time that it was. He had accomplished what he'd set out to do and had a good time doing it. That's my boy!
