Dear Riley,
The big family party had to be moved to our house today because Grandma is painting throughout her house and J and A can’t be around that. It’s after nine and we’re still visiting, but I’m getting worried about communicating with you. So I’m being anti-social for you. Are you impressed?
I have a new super power: I can empty my left sinus with one blow. One morning this week I did just that and it was all thick and green and I was discouraged. But I just irrigated and it cleared! I love my new super power. Except when I lay down after irrigating and I about drown with slugs of the leftovers. I’ll take it over sinus infections.
Spring break was great. I ran wedding errands. We went to Cameron’s concert at the Catholic church over by the apartment we brought you home to Wednesday night. I think it was my favorite concert; the music was so touching and so well executed.
But the biggest and best thing of Spring Break was the Goblin Valley trip. Thursday night we weren’t really sure where we were going and then we left Friday at 3. We knew all the campsites were reserved already, so we just camped on BLM land with no water and no toilets. We’d packed a big water cube expecting that. But we didn’t pack our bucket toilet and of course we all had to go, Josie number 2, as we were setting up the tent.
So after the tent was set up, Dad took us on a mile long trek to some trees which he hung a tarp across and we all did our duty. Josie did it! TADAH! But we were hiking home in the dusk and Josie tripped and fell right into a cactus. Oh, man! She didn’t cry, you know she’s tough. But oh. She had a polka dot palm through yesterday.
I put earplugs in so I didn’t hear the scurrying around in the tent, but Parker said that Josie came up to him in the dark and put her face right up in his, “Parker, we’re sleeping the same tent.” They had a little conversation before she went back to her own bag. I had a couple night sweats in my thermals in a mummy bag; not made for quick exodus. I didn't sleep much.
We drove into the park and were some of the first ones there, thankfully. The place was crawling with people later in the day. Parker really missed you. He tried to train Elise into and impulsive boy, but after three times of her saying, “I’m not doing that!” he gave up. He still managed to get stuck and unable to climb down, Dad had to save him, so he had enough fun…
Josie told Dad she needed to go poo just before lunch. But it was only the pit toilets. As we walked in she said, “Oh no, Mom. It already sucked back in. I don’t need to go anymore.” But of course that can only be put off for a while. Luckily when that while was over, everyone was done having fun and we stopped for flushing toilets at the ranger station. We stopped for ice cream on the way home. It was a great trip.
I laundered and folded nearly every clothing item in the house Friday night and we’re back on track for life.
Sacrament meeting was soooo good today. I love our fast and testimony meetings. I just felt the Spirit so strong so frequently. And I felt it in the temple as we did a sealing session last night. I just love the gospel!
So I was having a hard time yesterday. I was hurt and there was nothing to do except just let it go. And I know that in my head. But my heart still hurt. I practiced for my singing time today, over and over singing “Beautiful Savior” and I fasted for the atonement to heal my wounds and it really did. I felt the coverage coat my hurts and open me up to love again. I testified to the children today about that because the last line of the second verse is “He makes the sorrowing spirit sing.” I am grateful for music, for prayer, and for the power of the atonement in my life.
So what’s happened in your neck of the woods?
Love you,
Mom
