From Mom March 27, 2016 A Busy Week

Sunday, March 27, 2016

Dear Riley,

I’m overwhelmed at encapsulating the week.

So let’s talk about you. How has your week been? Are you healthy and happy and working hard? Did you get your package yet? How was Easter for you?

I guess it’s my turn. One big breath: CameronandCambryareofficiallyengaged. It was sweet and I know Cambry sent you the story, for which I’m grateful. They are so happy. Pictures follow.

That same Friday was A day up at Utah State, a recruiting event for admitted students and their parents. Parker really wasn’t thinking he’d go there for some reason. But Dad and I took him up way early in the morning. It was really a great event. It began with a mix and mingle with tables set up for each college. We sat at the engineering table, though Parker has really been thinking he may not do that now. Just after we sat down, the Dean of the department sat down with us and started visiting. I let out some of Parker’s concerns and he answered them. I really felt that was providence. Then Parker went off with engineering students and Dad and I got some good information as parents. We came back together for lunch and then we went and toured housing. He was sold. When we got home, we registered him for orientation and signed him up for housing. Tadah!

I hosted book group this week. We read The Wright Brothers and I really liked it. David McCullough has the best way writing about heroes so that you recognize their quirks and flaws, but you never forget that you’re reading about them because they ARE heroes. I recommend this book when you get home.

Probably the biggest deal in my life is that my sinus infection was literally sucked out and the doctor opened the drain in my left sinus 5 times larger than it was. I’ve not been able to get over an infection for months and so he had me come up so he could look inside. There was pus at the drain, clogging it, and once he got into the sinus, it was full of yucky, thick, gross infection. A lot of it. He suctioned it out and opened the drain larger and then he rinsed it with iodine. He is confident this will fix my problem. I think he’s right. It’s still a little swollen, but I have more energy. The doctor said that once it is like that, antibiotic won’t clear it, it can’t. I’m hoping!

Josie was hopped up on food dye and Aleah too from Easter. We’ll probably get them detoxed in time for the conference candy round. But it was a really good, really busy Easter. I played the flute with the choir today. When I went to practice with them before church, I had trouble staying in tune. So I went back home and got the tuner. It was beautiful. Phew.

Dad and I biked Monday afternoon before a cold front moved in. Then we went out yesterday. But Dad broke out in hay fever after that ride, so no more rides on the river for a while. We thought we were really booking it on the way out, but we just had a strong wind pushing us and I laughed and laughed when we turned around.

It’s been a big week. I’m truly wondering how I’ll stay on top of things. But it will get done. Probably. Hopefully.

I miss you today.

I love you!

Love,
Mom

The ward Easter egg hunt.  It was really cold.
