2016 Christmas Letter

In 2015 our family launched an ambitious and fun family project in conjunction with our Monday night family home evenings for our missionary Elder Riley Parish in Thailand.  As he prepared to leave US soil in January we wanted to feel more connected to him.  And we wanted to age, especially to have Josie age, one week at a time before his eyes.  We take turns choosing the weekly theme and we have one week to pull the pieces together.  Usually the picture is captured with a timer on the camera which is sitting on a tripod.  Yes, it’s a lot of work.  But we haven’t found much worth doing that isn’t.  And who doesn’t want to spend an extra 20+ minutes each week laughing with their family? Ok, maybe we are just crazy.
14 2015 April 20.JPGDave’s favorite picture of his theme choices is The Grapes of Wrath taken April 20.  Dave is generally the set man for the pictures.  Dave is still the bishop which keeps him busy, he’s perfected sourdough bread and bakes most weeks.  He picked up beekeeping this year and loves his bees.  Business is good and busy also.  He suggested we rent a tandem bike for our 24th anniversary this year… see below.

I discovered that I adore tandem bike riding this summer, bought a used bike, and hauled Dave out for several hundred miles.  I’m still the primary chorister and continue to think it’s the best way to spend time at church. I keep the blogs updated (for now).  Riley’s missionary letters are highlights in my week.

SAM_3628.JPGCambry’s favorite picture which she chose is Umbrella Flight taken March 9.  It’s been a big year for Cambry.  She participated in a BYU study abroad in London this spring and faithfully kept her blog each day. She also continued with the family picture project while there. Cambry graduates from BYU in English in the spring.  She serves in her single adult ward in the Relief Society presidency, a growing experience.  Aaaannd, she’s in love, she’s in love, she’s in love.

Riley is an LDS missionary in Thailand (he’s the one “landing” in the photo) and sends us weekly updates which I then post to his blog.  Favorite stories from him include a rodent house guest and riding the rail as an expressway down 3790 steps. He’s doing well.  He loves the people.  We miss him but we wholeheartedly affirm the message he shares.

Parker’s favorite picture which he chose is Dr. Who taken August 31.  Parker is a senior at Orem High where he’s taking several AP classes and drowning in homework.  Parker serves on the Stake Youth Council.  He’s applying to colleges. He stuffed five different costumes into his backpack for Halloween at school this year and changed every chance he got.  His efforts made the school paper.  He’s a leader.

Elise’s favorite picture which she chose is Lumberjacks taken October 19.  Elise is in eighth grade and her favorite class is yearbook.  She is becoming quite proficient on the piano and accompanied a choir during her December concert.  Elise is also a favorite babysitter for several neighbors.  She took up dance this year and loves it, regularly practicing while doing her kitchen chores.  Oh, she’s sweet.  And she’s taller than Mom.

Aleah’s favorite picture she chose is School Daze taken February 9.  She is in the fifth grade Chinese immersion class and is proficient enough to be helpful in LA.  She also takes piano and dance and is doing very well. Her art skills are developing as well. Aleah adds a sweet spice to everything she does.  She helps Elise babysit sometimes.  The house would probably never get decorated for holidays without Aleah.

Josie's favorite picture which she chose is Slumber Party taken July 27.  She chose that one because cheeseballs were bought as a prop and she was dying to try them. Josie is four and keeps
Mom company.  She takes a music class once a week and dance as well.  Josie’s a joy.  We wish we could transcribe her life and share her many quotables.

We love you and hope you are doing well.  We wish you the merriest of Christmases.  Our family blog will be updated weekly at least until Riley gets home in November:  http://daveandleadelle.blogspot.com/
