From Dad November 28, 2015

(Riley made a mistake last week telling us his p-day was moved a day or two back, so we planned to have letters ready for him Monday night.  Cambry alerted us that emails were coming in from him Sunday night as we were wearily finishing our chores on the the way to bed.  His letters are somewhat lacking this week due to that.)

Re: Letter 51 of 3

Dear Riley:

The Thanksgiving break passed like a whirlwind and Christmas is just around the corner. It was enjoyable, but seemed to be filled with a lot of running around. We spent the greater part of Thanksgiving Day with the B, and G up in L. As usual Great Grandpa B graciously provided the meal through the retirement center and all we needed to bring was ourselves. It was minimal hassle for us. We got back home around 6:00 PM and the party was still going strong over at Grandma and Grandpa P’s home, so we went there and enjoyed some more family time, a movie, and Thanksgiving leftovers.

I’m comfortably sitting in the front room on a Saturday afternoon while Christmas music plays over the sound system. There’s a dusting of snow outside and bright light is flooding in through the front window and spilling down the stairwell from the new skylight. The swamp cooler is finally gone, but I’m left with a sour taste in my mouth from truly abysmal customer service offered up by ASR. I first contacted them mid September and got a verbal bid about 12 days later. By the 2ndth of October I had purchased the Solotube skylight and called ASR on the 5th to schedule the installation. Two broken engagements with no communication, long periods of telephone silence, one more broken engagement and wasted day waiting around with sparse and vague communication (no show) and it was finally installed on the 19th of November. I suspect I’d be waiting still had I not told them I would find someone else to install it. I ended up taking another half day off and assisting with the installation. To top things off, the final amount came in double what I was expecting. In hindsight I should have had everything in writing, and probably shouldn’t have been so patient with them. This is the second time I’ve worked with roofers, and the second time I’ve been stung. Oh well! We’ll enjoy the skylight long after the pain of the experience has passed.

Parker is applying for colleges and I can hardly believe it. (I think he should apply to Southern State University because it’s a lot more temperate for someone who refuses to wear a coat.) Things seem to move at an accelerated pace once it comes to this. Didn’t we just do this for Cambry and Riley? Cambry and C are separated for the long weekend since his family is in Vegas.

Rats! I didn’t expect you to be on until Tuesday, so hadn’t finished your letter. It was a crazy busy day today. This is all I have.

Love,

Dad
