Dear Riley,
Sigh of relief. We all survived the week. I’m not exaggerating.
Today Elise turned 14. We got her a beautiful dress for her present and she looked so sophisticated and refined and beautiful today. I’m so glad I had her. Remember that magical day? I sure do. What a blessing it is to be a mother to all these wonderful children.
Elise was kind to me and asked for orange chicken for dinner with pan seared brussels sprouts. Easy stuff. I made a remarkable cake to finish things off tonight. She wanted chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate whipped cream frosting. I think I’ve never made such a delicious cake. Or at least not for a couple weeks. :)
This week Parker hit a wall in his depression. It was rough. He went to a counseling session and has gone back on his medication. “Enthusiastic cheers!” No, really. He can’t tell the difference, but we all can. I hope that he is able to pull things together. He did not get into BYU and that’s OK. He has been accepted to USU and we need to make plans. But really, that’s all that way far down the road.
Did I tell you that Josie is reading the Max books? She’s through the first two of the first set and asked me to help her read the third. She loves her preschool time and it is very good for her to keep her brain pleasantly engaged.
C got to perform with the world renowned King Singers at a concert at BYU this week. They performed two nights. Dad, Cambry and I went Thursday night. What a remarkable opportunity. They kept coming out for encores, three! We loved it.
Hey! Bike season is open here again. It hit the mid 50’s a couple times this week. Dad and I went out yesterday and biked up to State Street Grill and got our fish and chips. It was so fun. Then we took the bike into the shop for a major overhaul. Unfortunately, it’s going to be over a week before we get it back. Should have done it earlier. Oh well, it should be worth it.
Friday night Cambry and I went up to the Outlets and bought Spring colored cardigans. I took Elise out shopping Saturday night for her birthday present. I remembered this really sweet coral colored lace dress I’d seen up at the Outlets and took her up to see it. She tried it on and LOVED it. She added the same blue cardigan Cambry and I’d bought. They both wore theirs today and I didn’t get the memo.
Dad is so swamped at work. Good problems. But we're feeling some pressure. But we did have our bike trip. And we took a walk Friday evening with Cambryn over to Baskin Robbins. I love that date. And it was tastey. Oh, I made a Thai dish this week -- a lot of the Thai recipes use peanut butter. So basically, it's our idea of what constitutes Thai, but it's just not. Anyway, it was chicken and rice noodles in a peanut butter sauce. How do they keep their rice noodles from falling apart? They kept sucking all the moisture out of the sauce, so I'd add broth and it would disappear. And finally, I have these soft rice noodles of varying lengths in a tastey, but rather dry sauce.
My goodness! I just realized that it was just this last MONDAY that most of the Parishes went to ski Alta with the Ps. Dad taught Aleah again, she didn’t think she did well, but she did. Parker went down a black diamond run with M, DJ, S, D and C. When Parker told me, I looked at him in astonishment and said, “Are you good enough to do that?” he answered, “No! I stunk at it!” Elise skiid with E and J. She had one fantastic crash that J thought was masterful. She laughs it off, but she was sore the next day.
So Elise wondered if you had a baptism for her birthday. It hasn’t sounded like you’ve taught that family for a while. We’re wondering (and hoping) though.
I loved your last letter. You have an accent?!?! in English. That’s so funny. I liked the perspective you got from that returned missionary who served in Russia. You can’t weigh the worth of the gift by how it’s received. And the good news is that you are blessed for proffering the gift regardless. Like forever.
I love you, son. You take care. Work hard. Enjoy. Slow and steady wins the race.
Love,
Mom
Hey, I saw on the missionary moms group that some missionaries had difficulty getting their emails last week. Did you get Dad and mine's? I know you got the pictures. I hope you got them, that would be such a bummer to not get letters!
